Ex-POWs and Concerned Republicans Against RUC/PSNI & MI5
Derry Journal, 6 March 2007

Peggy O'Hara is standing in Foyle as an Independent Republican Candidate. Peggy stands for traditional Republican values and the rights of working class communities. The Peggy O'Hara Campaign is a coalition of Republicans who want to re-unite and re-build the Republican Movement. Over recent years, the British establishment has been successfully applying the colonial tactics of 'divide and conquer'. The result has been the hollowing out of Irish Republicanism. Peggy opposes the ridiculous proposal that Republicans should support the armed British militia of the RUC/PSNI, a force that recruits vulnerable young people to become informers and spy on the community. They do this in the full knowledge that they are risking these young people's lives. Support for the RUC/PSNI is not the solution to the community's problems, the political solidarity of the Republican community is a more potent resource in the fight against anti-social behaviour and other challenges faced by the community.

As the mother of Hunger Striker Patsy O'Hara, Peggy knows well the hardships faced by the community in the struggle for freedom and justice. She is also very conscious the important issues currently concerning the community, such as water charges. Peggy will endorse radical opposition to these charges and because she will not take her seat in Stormont, she will not be influenced by the political back-scratching and back-sliding that career politicians engage in.

Hundreds of former Republican POWs are actively supporting the Peggy O'Hara Campaign. We would like to invite all Republicans to get in touch with the Campaign team. A vote for Peggy O'Hara is vote to end British involvement in Ireland.
